Therapy Techniques

Therapy interventions are tailored specifically to you. Various techniques are available and we will explore the therapy which is appropriate to enable you to achieve your therapeutic goals.

Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a safe, natural way to use your mind for change, supported by evidence. It creates a state of heightened focus and awareness, where you are mentally awake and engaged. We use your natural suggestibility to access your imagination for positive changes. It is not ‘trance’ or ‘mind control’—you are in control.

During hypnosis, you can have vivid imaginative experiences, almost as powerful as real ones. You can visualize your goals and change your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to achieve them. Anyone can be hypnotised if they want to be, and you can be trained to improve your suggestibility.

Hypnotherapy involves using hypnosis in a therapeutic setting and is classified by the Department of Health as a complementary therapy. I combine hypnosis with CBT and other techniques to help you change the way you think, feel, and act.

Hypnosis is proven to assist with a variety of issues, including anxiety management, pain management, sleep problems, stress-related issues, and breaking habits.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, is the most well-researched and evidence-based psychotherapy there is. It is a talking therapy that helps identify and replace negative patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving with more helpful ones. Our thoughts, feelings, and actions are interconnected, so changing one can affect the others.

CBT focuses on addressing current problems rather than exploring the past, making treatment faster. It also teaches coping skills to maintain changes in the real world.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the NHS recommend CBT for treating anxiety and depression. There is also strong evidence that CBT can help with panic attacks, phobias, sleep problems, and stress-related issues.

Research shows that combining hypnosis with CBT can be more effective than using CBT alone for many conditions.

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH)

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with evidence-based Clinical Hypnotherapy. This integration has been proven to be significantly more effective than using either method alone.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

EFT is a brief intervention combining elements of exposure cognitive therapy and somatic stimulation.  Commonly known as “tapping”, it involves tapping on specific meridian/acupressure points on the body while focusing on a particular issue or emotion.  This process helps to regulate the body’s stress response by reprocessing negative emotions or beliefs. EFT can be used as an alternative treatment for various emotional and physical conditions such as fears, phobias, anxiety, stress, depression, PTSD, chronic pain, insomnia, weight loss, and more.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is the treatment of mental health issues by psychological rather than medical means.

Relaxation

I teach Relaxation techniques to my clients to help them cope with everyday stress. They are easy to learn and work best when practiced over the long term, like exercise, to reduce muscle tension, slow down the pace of breathing and slow down the mind.

I offer a free relaxation recording. To request this recording, enter your details below and I will email this to you shortly.

    Mindfulness

I also use Mindfulness techniques to enhance treatment. Mindfulness means being fully present and aware of your emotions, physical sensations, and everything happening around you, moment by moment.

Sometimes, our attention gets stuck on unhelpful thoughts, like worrying about future events. Practising mindfulness helps you notice when this happens and choose whether to focus on these thoughts or let them go. This can foster greater self-compassion and compassion for others, improve mood, and lead to a more positive, happy, and contented life. Best of all, anyone can do it!

Mindfulness is increasingly recognised, including by the NHS, for its significant benefits, especially for stress and anxiety.
